The Forest Service Pacific Southwest Region, which includes the Inyo National Forest, has announced that it will reopen most forests on Thursday, September 16. On Thursday, all lands, trails, and roads will open on the Inyo, including South Tufa and Navy Beach at Mono Lake. Weekend South Tufa tours led by Mono Lake Committee staff will resume on Friday, September 17—reserve your spot today.
Please note that fire restrictions are still in place for all public and private lands in Mono County. Stage II fire restrictions remain in place on the Inyo, which means no campfires, even in developed recreation sites. Visitors with a valid California Campfire permit may use a portable stove or lantern using gas, jellied petroleum, or pressurized liquid fuel.
The Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest will reopen dispersed camping areas, including the Carson Iceberg and Hoover wilderness areas on Friday, September 17, at 12:00pm.
